Akenac Park would be cut in half by FirstEnergy's new Shawnee-Walker 69kV line!
Clear-cutting the forest to put high-voltage lines where our kids play goes against the friendly, nature loving community that defines Pike County.
Despite claiming that they would use "roadways and other utility corridors," FirstEnergy has revealed their plans to go right through the middle of Akenac Park.
The Delaware Township Board of Supervisors, who manages the park, was not consulted about the plan to clearcut through the middle of the park. The people of Delaware Township, who own and love Akenac Park, were not asked if their beloved park should be chopped in half to make way for a high-voltage line which could easily have been placed elsewhere.
Right now, the park features a number of attractions for us all to enjoy:
- A playground that our kids love
- Hiking trails in a beautiful forest
- Fishing in a crystal clear lake
- Swimming, to cool off in the hot summer
- Boating on the lake
- A community theater
- Our local historical society, keeping our town's past alive
The park as we know it would be lost if FirstEnergy gets their way.
