We expect FirstEnergy to send their agents out into the community to convince people to sign "easements" or "rights of way." Understand that you have rights, you do not need to sign. If you sign what they give you, you are signing away your property rights!
Our most important message is this:
DO NOT SIGN!
We have been told that in other communities threatened with similar projects, their power companies lied, deceived, or even intimidated people to get their signatures. Don't be fooled. You have property rights! Don't sign anything that will give up your rights and hurt our community.
The fewer signatures they can get, the better our chances of saving our homes, parks, and forests.
What about contacting our elected representatives?
This is a great idea! Please let your elected representatives know how much you oppose this project.
You can reach your representatives at these numbers:
Senator Lisa Baker
Harrisburg Office: (717) 787-7428
Hawley Office: (570) 226-5960
State Rep. Rosemary Brown (Delaware Township, Lehman Township)
Harrisburg Office: (717) 260-6171
East Stroudsburg Office: (570) 420-8301
State Rep. Michael Peifer (Milford Township, Milford Borough, Shohola Township, Matamoras Borough)
Harrisburg Office: (717) 783-2037
Hawley Office: (570) 226-5959
You might say something like:
"Hi, I'm calling to oppose the Shawnee-Walker high voltage line that FirstEnergy is trying to build in our neighborhood. This line would cut through public parks, private property, and even residential communities. Please ask the representative to reach out to PUC (Public Utilities Commission) and oppose the Shawnee-Walker high voltage line."
